The Hidden Story Behind the Cross of Lorraine ☨
On the anniversary of Charles de Gaulle’s historic appeal of 18 June 1940, discover the incredible journey of a forgotten French emblem — rich in faith, memory… and resistance.
Bonjour!
18 June always brings one powerful voice to mind: General Charles de Gaulle, speaking from London in 1940, calling on the French to resist when all seemed lost.
But on that very same day, another symbol quietly began its rise in the collective memory: the Cross of Lorraine.
Two bars. One message: resistance, faith, hope.
Today, I’d love to share a project that’s especially close to my heart.
It’s a short book I wrote with passion — a blend of historical anecdotes, research, and a deep love for heritage. It’s called:
The Cross of Lorraine: 2000 Years of History, Symbols and Resistance
☨ One symbol, a thousand stories
We’ve all seen it. But few of us know what it really means.
It waves above memorials, appears on coats of arms, and stands proudly on the beaches of Normandy…
But where did the Cross of Lorraine come from? Why does it have two bars? And how did it travel from Jerusalem to Metz, from Anjou to London?
This ebook tells the whole story — from the 4th century to today.

“Thank you, Pierre. This is so well researched and informative. I genuinely learned a lot about the Cross of Lorraine. It’s sure to be one of my favourite things you’ve written!” — Marie, passionate reader
“I’ve always had a deep love for France and its history, passed down from my mother who taught me as a child. The Cross of Lorraine is a symbol I hold dearly — for all the Free French, for General de Gaulle, General Leclerc, and so many others who gave their lives between 1940 and 1944 under German occupation. Thank you.” — Paul, US reader
“My father served in the US Third Army under General Patton. His unit wore the Cross of Lorraine on their American uniforms. I still have a photo of the patch. He landed on the Normandy beaches and fought all the way through Alsace-Lorraine during WWII. Viva La France!” — Kathryn, US reader
